For my second episode, I wanted to tell a powerful, compelling story with an indestructible female Marine at the center. A Marine who would stop at nothing to defend her country, but had no idea how to defend herself.
Writing the episode was a delicate balancing act. I needed the episode to lay out the complexities of the Georgia Wooten character, without tipping my hand as to who the real killer was. It needed to be a good mystery (in the classic NCIS vein) as well as a strong character study. Luckily, the actress we cast, Cristina Cox, had all the colors we needed to play the role and pulled it off well.
We had a new director on this episode, Craig Ross, Jr. Craig did an excellent job bringing the script to life. He gave it the emotion and depth we needed. And, of course, our cast was at the top of their game. Mark Harmon is excellent. Gibbs’ scenes with Georgia near the end of the episode are among my favorite. Cote De Pablo also shined. And Michael Weatherly and Sean Murray are hysterical in a fun side story that introduces us to an up-and-coming 12 year-old actor, Aramis Knight, who I’m certain will be gracing the cover of every magazine in the years to come (this kid is beyond talented). Also, a big thanks to Oliva Dudley for bringing great nuance and compassion to her role. She’s another real star-in-the-making. We were blown away by her talent and skill.
As always a HUGE THANKS to our fantastic crew. They are truly the best, and make coming to the set every day a joy. It’d be nothing but words on the page without their great work. And thank you to all the fans for making this show #1 every week.
