If you’re a “NCIS” and Mike Franks fan, then you were probably ecstatic to hear about Franks’ return in the upcoming season finale. Well, here is some more good news. TVRage was lucky enough to snag an email interview with Muse Watson. Check it out to see what he had to say about being asked back to the hit drama, what role he plays in the finale and how Franks’ Rule 33 would help Ziva (Cote de Pablo).
TVRage:How did it feel to be back on “NCIS”?
Muse Watson: It was great. It was like going back in time in some ways. I always get the feeling that Mike Franks and I are an integral part of the experience of NCIS for a lot of the regular folks who work on the show. Very little changes at the Studio setting and the people are just solid folks who are a delight to be around. We just picked up where we left off..... I will always enjoy working and catching up with my friends at NCIS.
TVRage:When were you first approached about joining the Season 10 finale? Did you have any hesitancy about coming back?
Watson: Well, when I was approached, the script had not been written, so there was a little hesitancy. I love the character of Mike Franks and I had no idea where they would take him. I also understand the fans feelings. Although there are many fans who would want Mike back at any cost, ie saying the death was fake etc., I also understand that there are those who enjoyed the character but feel like he is dead … let's move on. I get both those feelings and appreciate the sentiment.
TVRage:We know Mike Franks will be back as a ghost and a posthumous mentor for Gibbs, but what other details can you divulge about Franks’ appearance?
Watson: I would not even confirm what you said. LOL Well, I guess I could, but I would have to kill you.
TVRage:What can you tell us about the federal witch hunt the NCIS team is experiencing?
Watson: See answer number 3. LOL
"Gibbs is going to face some very tough decisions," executive producer Gary Glasberg tellsTVGuide.com. "And who better to help him than his best friend, Mike Franks. ... Imagine having a conscience, a moral compass, that speaks to you in the form of the wonderful Muse Watson. ... This is going to be a lot of fun."
TVRage: Franks has always been seen as Gibbs’ mentor. What advice do you think Franks would give Ziva this season, especially after her father’s death and her act of revenge?
Watson: Mike Franks rule number 33. “Face your fears.”
TVRage:You seem to be very loyal to your fans, especially on Twitter and Facebook. What does it mean to you to have this strong following even after Franks’ death?
Watson: It means the world to me. Mr. Don Bellisario created Mike Franks with his pen and I was honored to be given the chance to create him as a person with the help of Mark Harmon and the wonderful producers, writers, cast and crew of the best drama on television. It is an honor for me for folks to feel like they know Mike, respect Mike, and enjoy his company.
TVRage: Can we expect to see Franks next season on “NCIS”? Will you be making any other future TV appearances?
Watson: I would certainly hope so, and I get the feeling that the wonderful folks at NCIS are not against it. I miss the opporitunity to shoot people … in fiction of course. As for 'other' tv appearances … There are over 80 films I have done that may show up on tv and I would hope that I would be given the chance to continue to create characters for the fans. Some of the latest films in theaters and tv are “The Last Exorcism II”, “Meeting Evil” with Samuel Jackson, and “Compound Fracture” which pairs my history as “I Know What You Did Last Summer”s Ben Willis with “Michael Myers” Tyler Mane and “Friday the 13th” Derek Mears for the first time.
